Brazil at Expo 2020 Dubai

Expo 2020 Dubai will mark a turning point for Brazil to reposition itself in the period from the pandemic to the resumption of business. We have the opportunity to convey to 25 million visitors that we are a world reference in sustainable development, that we invest in renewable energy and new technologies, valuing our natural, cultural and ethnic diversity.

 

In this edition, the Brazil pavilion evokes the Amazon basin in the desert of Dubai, presenting proposals to improve the use of natural resources with incredible experiences.

Brazil is a traditional participant, having made its first appearance while still in the Empire, with the support of Dom Pedro II, who wanted to include the country in the group of “civilized nations”. Since then, he has shown his highlights in editions such as in Philadelphia in 1876, where the focus was coffee; in 1939, in New York; in 1958 in Brussels; and 1970, in Osaka, where architecture was the big star.

 

Recently, Brazil stood out in the last two Expos held, in Shanghai and Milan, both organized by ApexBrasil. In Shanghai, the Brazil Pavilion accumulated queues throughout the exhibition, and in Milan it was the most visited National Pavilion.

It is of great importance for our country when you participate in Expo Dubai, helping to leverage Brazil in the areas of sustainable development, vegetation, exports, promoting our products, culture and diversity!

In this edition, the theme "Connecting Minds, Creating the Future" of Expo 2020 Dubai will be organized in three thematic axes: opportunity, mobility and sustainability.

 

The theme for Brazil this year is "Together for sustainable development", with three sub-themes: "Together for nature", "Together for human beings" and "Together for tomorrow".

 

When talking about sustainability, Brazil will be highlighted in the pavilion, as in addition to being located in the Sustainability District, the topic will be debated and shown through important lectures and incredible experiences that portray the country's natural potential. The pavilion recreated the Amazon basin, with the sights, sounds and smells of riverside areas in Brazil. The idea is to evoke the Amazon basin in the Dubai desert, which is already being appreciated by all visitors.

Expected to receive 2.5 million visitors, the Brazil pavilion was organized in partnership with the Instituto de Arquitetos do Brasil. Designed by JPG.ARQ, MMBB and Ben-Avid, the two-story building rested on stilts and bathed by a reflecting pool that occupies almost all of the 3,722.59m² of the land. Around it, a huge metallic structure with four sides measuring 48mx20m covered by a translucent membrane.

 

In addition, 140 projectors bring to life the diversity of Brazil and a square covered with water. As the sun sets, the projectors convert the translucent membrane of the steel frame into huge screens showing the ecosystem, our cities and food technology.
